The health and wellness ministry is rooted in 3 John 2: “Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well” (NIV).
HEALTH & WELLNESS MINISTRY
The Health and Well Ministry was organized in the fall of 2004 by a Registered dietitian, initiating and developing programs supported by the Pastor. After initially funding the position, the ministry moved on to secure finances through in-kind donations. This ministry organized to improve the overall health outcome of our members and the surrounding communities we serve.
Deaconess Mitty S. Coleman is the leader of this ministry. She leads the Health and Wellness team with a mission to reclaim the Church’s biblical commitment to care for our bodies and our spirits.
The ministry demonstrates that the church is not an exclusive institution but rather a community of passionate people that that are committed to being thoroughly integrated into the life of their city. This is without question a position the ministry take with full confidence is it drives its boldness in pursuing with unbridled faith a more demanding journey.
Community Health and Wellness Fairs that involves the entire community with the participation of several churches and the local Health Department in Community Outreach twice a year. This ministry organized to improve the overall health outcome of parishioners and the surrounding communities we serve. African Americans as a group have earlier and higher rates of death and debilitating illnesses than other groups of people. The aim of this ministry is to train health coordinators for as many of our churches as possible. These coordinators will work with a health ministry committee in the church to provide health information consistently for church members and visitors.
The focal point of the Health and Wellness Ministry works closely with surrounding community. It is demonstrated that the church is to provide preliminary care for the surrounding community, concentrically expanding on a yearly basis, to provide health screenings that are pivoted to overall wellness.
Health education articles are displayed on the Health and Wellness Bulletin Board, Care Notes are available in a display rack for easy reference. The ministry’s monthly newsletter includes articles stressing spirit care and a timely monthly health issues calendar. Annual blood drives are held and church members and the surrounding community participate.
Our Mission:
is to support the vision and ministry of the church through health education, prevention and awareness. As families come together around the Word of God, it is also the role of the church to make sure that families stay united. The health and wellness ministry would unite families in a ministry of the body as well as the spirit.
Our Vision:
To promote physical, emotional and spiritual health.
